Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the two security guards on duty at the time of the robbery heard an unusual noise on the premises and called for backup.
The suspects ran away, but returned at 3am while the guards were on routine patrols.
“The guards were taken hostage,” says Ramphora.
He says the suspects took 15m of 3mm cable from the premises and left the scene.
The security guards were rescued by their day shift colleagues.
