Two Springs robbers arrested in Tembisa

Two suspects will be moved from Tembisa to Springs on Wednesday after they were arrested in Tembisa on Saturday.

According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, the duo robbed a business in Holfontein, near Persida on Saturday, using a firearm.

Two security guards were held up at gunpoint by the two suspects, who had pretended to be looking for work.

“The two guards were tied up with cable ties and were instructed to lie down on the ground,” he says.

A third guard was also tied up and taken to the guardroom.

Ramphora says the two suspects searched one of the guards and took his cellphone.

“The guards claim they heard one of the tractor loader backhoes (TLB) start and allege a third suspect left the premises with the TLB,” he says.

The two suspects left soon after that and the guards managed to get help from the neighbours.

The value of the TLB is approximately R900 000.

Ramphora says the suspects allegedly also took a firearm.

The third suspect got away.
