WATCH: Butler Park event for underpriveleged residents
An Easter feeding scheme took place at Butler Park, Geduld, last Saturday where the less privileged were served a steaming bowl of chicken potjiekos.
Sanet Joubert, one of Geduld’s helping hands, arranged this year’s event and it was very successful, despite numerous challenges.

“People who usually help me pulled out this year but, just as I’d lost all hope as to how I would pull this off single-handedly, other people offered their support in ways I never expected,” says Sanet.
The Pink Pistols motorcycle club, that has helped at and attended the Butler Park feeding scheme for the past couple of years, arranged and collected numerous soft toys and marshmallow Easter eggs which were handed out to every child after their meal.

Sanet and her husband, Diekie, were awake until the early hours of Saturday morning preparing the chicken potjie, which consisted of 44kg of chicken.
“A business in Vereeniging sent 18kg of chicken by courier,” says Sanet.
“This year, Geduld residents also enjoyed bread, rice, wheat and pap with the meal.
“We also had people volunteering to sing and for most of the day everyone was entertained by one singer after the other.”
Johan van Niekerk, from Gideons International, in Springs, handed out about 50 small Bibles to residents who attended.
“I want to thank every single person who had a hand in this day.
“It truly was an amazing day and the turnout was unbelievable,” says Sanet.
“To the people of Rescue24 who patiently sat by in case of any emergencies and who are always available, I am also incredibly grateful.
“There are so many new people who have come together and helped to make this day a success, thank you to you all,” says Sanet.
