Springs police are searching for two suspects who allegedly shot a man with a pistol
during an attempted hijacking incident near Pansy Road, on the N12 highway on Tuesday.
The suspects fled the scene on foot, when they hit the side barriers on the highway in an attempt to hijack the truck.
According to Springs police spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, the driver had parked the white freight liner next to the highway to take a phone call when he noticed two suspects opening the passenger side door.
One suspect who was armed with a pistol pointed the gun at the driver and fired a shot.
The bullet went through his hand, which he held in front of his face and hit the door.
“The victim jumped out of the truck and ran away,” says Ramphora.
At the time of the attempted hijacking the truck was empty.
Ramphora says they are investigating a case of attempted hijacking and attempted murder.
No arrests have been made so far.
Police request anyone who has information which could lead to the arrest of suspects to contact the police station on 011 365 5719/20 or alternatively call the Crime Stop line on 086 001 0111.
