Senior citizens embrace Grandparents Day activities

Fifty senior citizens were treated to Grandparents Day.

The Avenues Shopping Centre held their Grandparents Day on Wednesday morning.

The third annual event brought 50 senior citizens together who enjoyed the fun activities, morning tea and singing and dancing.

The senior citizens represented Esda Retirement Village and Springs Retirement Village (SRV).

Carolynn Meedon Growth Point spokesperson says the best event was the dancing and singing with singer Hunter.

Four lucky winners each won a shopping voucher from one of the stores at the centre.

“We would like to thank our grandparents for their love and support. We hosted this event as a small token of our appreciation,” says Meedon.

According to SRV manager, Rob Hutcheon the event was a wonderful experience.

“What a way to celebrate this day with the senior citizens.

“Seeing the residents dancing and singing to the music brings such joy,” he says.

Gwen Massyn (75) says she loved the music provided by Hunter.

“Without hesitation, she sang requested songs which brought back many memories,” says Massyn.

SRV recreational activity co-ordinator Zanele Tsheola enjoyed quite a few dance moves with Mavis Venter (76).

“Dancing to the music is fun, but sharing it with a senior citizen brings so much joy,” she says.
