Johanna Berrios Espinoza was sentenced for kidnapping and theft of a motor vehicle in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The 46-year-old woman received a five years sentence for kidnapping a boy (2) and her daughter (6) from a place of safety on August 1.
According to Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora the woman also took a vehicle from the premises.
“She stole a vehicle and fled the scene,” says Ramphora.
Staff from the Hillbrow Hotel found the boy abandoned in a hotel room on August 2.
The woman was arrested in Reiger Park on August 23 where the police found her and the girl.
The girl was placed in a place of safety.
Ramphora says the woman will serve her sentence at Johannesburg Female Correctional Centre.
