‘Best results we’ve had in a long time’
Eight learners each receive an average of over 80 per cent.
Veritas College’s 2017 matric class did the school proud in their Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exams, achieving the best results the school has seen in a number of years.
This is according to Terry Holland, head of the senior school, who reports the school received a 100 per cent pass rate for the 20th consecutive year.
Fifty-one learners wrote the IEB exams and collectively achieved 81 distinctions.
Holland says what makes their results even more impressive is the fact that the top eight learners each achieved an average of over 80 per cent.
Ninety per cent of the learners received degree passes, up from 2016’s 87 per cent, an improvement the school is extremely proud of.
“Congratulations to the teachers, whose tenacity and devotion helped achieve these phenomenal results,” says Holland, adding that four departments achieved the highest number of distinctions the school has ever seen.
These departments were life orientation (29 distinctions), accounting (6), history (5) and life sciences (4).
“We are immensely proud of what our family has achieved.
“May your futures be blessed and may you always choose to do only that which is worthy of praise.”
Top marks went to:
• Hannah Mitchell, who attained seven distinctions including three A+ symbols to achieve an average of 88 per cent. She was also in the top one per cent in the country for computer applications technology (CAT).

• Nkateko Shilaluke received five As, two A+ symbols and an average of 85 per cent.
• Kerryn Potgieter achieved six distinctions and an overall average of 84 per cent. She was in the top one per cent in the country for life orientation (LO).
• Jemma Pellizzon attained five distinctions and an average of 82 per cent.
• Ipeleng Lentsoe received five distinctions and an 81 per cent average.
• Zakhna Dhiraj attained five distinctions, one of which was for advanced programme maths, and an overall average of 81 per cent.
• Deidre Jacobs achieved five distinctions, including advanced programme maths, and a 79 per cent average.
• Bertie Swart got four distinctions and an average of 80 per cent.
Holland adds, “Veritas College teachers are to be congratulated on their determination to ensure that their learners achieve exceptional results in their subjects.”
She made special mention of Catherine Boonzaaier, who has only been at the school for a year and coached her life orientation learners to receive the best results the school has ever seen, with one of her learners placed in the top one per cent.
“What incredible staff we have at the school.
“Well done, educators!
“Our new staff intake has been carefully selected to maintain this level of excellence and we are very excited about our prospects in 2018.”
