Two Springs men launch antique app

Two Springs men have designed and created an antique app

Two Springs men have designed and created an antique application (app), the SafeSell app, which was recently launched on Google Play Store.

Renier van Rooyen and Grant Warren from Springs are the co-founders and have created this safe app “for the average man on the street”.

The aim of the app is for any person, who thinks they may have an antique in their home and wants to sell it, to merely take a photo of the item and upload to the app.

They have a system in place that takes immediate effect as soon as the photo is uploaded and within 48 hours, the prospective seller will have either an offer on the item or a reply from the developers.

The item is then uploaded on the system and that is when prospective buyers will start bidding for the item.

Renier and Grant then approach the seller via email to inform them of the highest bid on the item.

“We have expert antique dealers from here to the Western Cape, as well as evaluators who help educate people on their antiques,” says Renier.

The app is very much focused on the safety of both the buyer and seller.

They explain that this idea was sparked when they wanted to create a space to sell furniture, bikes, property and many other things.

After doing a bit of research, they discovered there are not many apps focusing on buying and selling antiques or vintage cars.

“That’s when we decided to take that route,” says Grant.

He adds that it’s not an easy venture as there is not anything to compare this particular app and its features to.

“We saw there was definitely a market for it,” he says.

“And that’s how the app was born,” says Renier.

Renier and Grant work as the in-between people and the app does not reveal any personal information to either party.

“It is very different from OLX or Gumtree,” says Grant. “It’s a safe environment and we do not connect the dealer and seller.”

The pair is aware they might be dealing with a lot of mistrust, due to the newness and unfamiliarity of the app.

“It’s a free app, with a secure environment and secure trust account,” says Grant.

The Springsites explain that they have one central trust account where all the money from buyers and sellers go.

The antique item, when bought via the app, will be sent to the buyer’s address (by the developers).

“The details always remain safe and secure.

“This is an app for any man on the street who can easily upload photos and start the process of selling antiques.”

The SafeSell app was launched only in South Africa, but Renier says they are currently looking to expand to Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
