Pammies take second place in braai competition
Meat World organised the competition which saw eight schools go head-to-head to prepare the best braaivleis.
Belvedere High School took first place in the Springs Meat World Braaifees, held in celebration of National Braai Day.
Meat World, located at the Springs National Fresh Produce market, organised the competition which saw eight schools go head-to-head to prepare the best braaivleis.
The teams were provided with a basket of meat including lamb, chicken, wors and steak, with each expected to braai all the cuts of meat provided, and also to prepare at least two side dishes.

Preparation began at 9am.
Team Springs Girls High School were in high spirits as the coals turned red.
“We all love cooking and helping our moms at home, so we are confident.
“We have this one in the bag,” says Naledi Methula.
Each team provided their own table, braai, charcoal or wood, firelighters, gazebo and anything else needed for the occasion.
Brakpan High School’s Micheala Byrne thought their menu would come out tops.

“We are making all the food with love.
“It is all a reflection of our heritage,” she says.
In the end, the big prize of meat to the value of R10 000 went to Belvedere High School, from Benoni.
The second prize of meat to the value of R5 000 went to Laerskool Pam Brink.
“We are very proud of the boys because they are the only primary school in the top three,” says Andre van de Berg, chairperson of the school’s governing body.
The third prize meat worth R2 500 went to the Buhlebemfundo Secondary School team, from Tsakane.
