The Springs Muslim School in partnership with the South African National Zakah Fund (SANZAF) had an adopt-a-granny programme on March 11 at Fashion World at the Palm Springs shopping complex in the CBD.
Mohammed Essop the area manager of Fashion World says: “SANZAF organises this in conjunction with the school.
“I believe this is a good initiative as they will be keeping the grannies warm this winter as they are buying them winter clothes.”
The shop was filled with happy grannies as they were doing their shopping.
After shopping, they were treated to lunch at Jimmy’s Killer Fish and Chips(JKFC).

Muniera Choghuley, Springs Muslim School coordinator says: “The programme has been going on for four years now and we are looking forward to many years. This year we have 20 grannies whom we are spoiling. As we are in partnership with SANZAF, SANZAF pays for the shopping and we take care of lunch. This year Jimmy’s Killer Fish and Chips have sponsored our lunch and we are very thankful to them.”
“They are grannies from our community so providing lunch to them brings joy to us and it is part of our religion to take care of the elders. “Seeing them happy makes me happy,” says Rashid Ahmed Sibda, owner of JKFC.

“The school will also be treating us to dessert at the mall and I’m told we will be having some ice-cream.
“The girls were also helpful to us and they helped us with smiles.”
