Sisters do it for themselves
Tshepang's performance saw her being chosen for team South Africa that will be heading to the World Championships for Performing Arts in Los Angeles in July.
Sisters Tshepang and Naledi Khoali exceeded their greatest expectations with their performance at the South African Championships of the Performing Arts in Rustenburg from March 29 to April 7.
Tshepang, who is a singer, competed in 17 different genres, ranging from jazz to opera, took home 14 medals – nine gold, four silver and one bronze.
“I was sure I was going to win something.
“It was my first time competing nationally and it was exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time,” says Tshepang.
The former Springs Girls’ High School learner is now pursuing a full-time music career and is studying music with opera singer Dr Maudee Montierre.

Tshepang’s younger sister, Naledi, also did very well.
Naledi, who attends Strubenvale Primary School, danced three dances.
She only started dancing last year and is very proud of her performance.
“I also did some modelling in the championships and took part in the formal, casual and swimwear categories.
“The competition in my age group was very stiff, but I know the level I had to be at.
“It was fun and challenging, but I enjoyed myself,” says Naledi.
The sisters say their artistic nature comes from their father who is a huge lover of the arts and who has also performed with a choir.

“Seeing them excel is wonderful, and my wife and I support them.
“I always tell them that although winning medals and trophies is great, the knowledge they gain is more important,” says father Moletsane.
The girls will, in the upcoming months, have a few fund-raising concerts to help Tshepang attend the world championships in LA.
