The Probus Club of Springs has a new president.
Bill Aver, who was inducted earlier this month, was presented with the Chain of Office and the President’s badge by the outgoing president, Deirdre Woest, who wished him a successful tenure.
Aver will preside at the monthly meetings from May 2019 to April 2020.

Members of the Probus Club went on another interesting and nostalgic outing to the Heidelberg Heritage Museum, situated on the original Heidelberg train station site.
The museum brings to life the experience of travelling on a steam train in wood-panelled coaches and sipping on coffee to die for.
Heidelberg was laid out and proclaimed a town in 1866 and is one of Gauteng’s oldest towns.
The old station complex was completed in 1896 and the iconic red-and-white sandstone building is now a national monument.
Steam locomotive 816 is on display in all its former glory, as are two sleeping cars (coupés and double compartments) and two dining cars.
No. 166 “Liesbeeck” was built in Pretoria in 1914 and withdrawn from service in 1975.
No. 167 “Illovo” was built in 1914 and withdrawn in 1976.
The tables in one dining car are set formally, exactly as they were in their heyday, and the second also has fully set tables where visitors can enjoy a superb set menu.

The Heidelberg Heritage Museum also offers a tour of its very own brewery with beer tastings of the four blends they brew (at a very reasonable price), which can be enjoyed with your meals.
There is a park for children to play in, set in lovely, tranquil gardens.
The venue is available for business conferences, birthday parties or even a wedding, with friendly staff waiting to assist you in every way.
The town has many historical sites on its doorstep.
The museum is less than an hour away from Springs and well worth a visit.
Probus members enjoy monthly outings and new members are welcome to join by calling Aver on 011 818 4121 or 083 3060 325.
