New park under construction in Springs extension

“Some people can’t afford a gym membership so they can come here to get some exercise.”

A new park is being constructed on Broad Street in Springs extension.

The project is named after former Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) head of finance Lungile Mtshali.

It is part of a wider effort to construct parks around Ward 74, including KwaThema and Brakpan.

According to ward councilour Thulani Simelane, the park came at the request of the residents who want the youth to be more active.

Construction started last Thursday and is estimated to be done by the end of the June.

“We want to thank the city for their request and efforts at trying to address issues in the area,” says Simelane.

He added that there will be gym equipment set up in the park.

“Some people can’t afford a gym membership so they can come here to get some exercise.”
