Suspects found with over R160 000

Metro officers spotted the two suspects acting suspiciously at an ATM machine in the Springs CBD and proceeded to follow them.

 

Two suspects, aged 26 and 30, were arrested on Monday morning carrying R126 000 and R43 000 respectively.

The officers arrested the two suspects and took them to the Springs Police Station where the money and several Sassa cards were found in their possession.

It was found that the suspects were involved in a Sassa loan shark scheme whereby by cardholders lend their cards to people who withdraw all the money and only return a small percentage of the money to the cardholder.

Capt Johannes Ramphora wants to warn the public about this loan shark scheme and asks that they stop lending out their Sassa cards.

An investigation into the loan shark scheme is still ongoing.
