Subway can only be cleaned when there is no flooding, says metro

No Dumping signs were placed at the sites.

In response to an article titled Flooded subway used as a dumping site published on 18 November, the metro’s divisional head of communication and media relations, Nhlanhla Cebekhulu, stated the following:

“The subway has not been abandoned as some residents have said, and waste management cleans there on a regular basis.

“Waste management can only clean the subway when there is no water in it.”

When asked about the dumping sites and how it can be prevented from happening, Nhlanhla says: “Waste Management clean the sites on a regular basis.

“No Dumping signs were placed at the sites.

“Some of these signs were removed and in other instances people dump in front of the signs.

“Fines can be imposed if the contraveners are caught.”
