A stop-and-search operation yielded positive results for Benoni Flying Squad SAPS members, who were conducting patrols at the N12 next to Springs last Wednesday when they arrested a truck driver for possession of stolen copper.
The police noticed a suspicious Tata truck travelling from Mpumalanga to Gauteng with a heavy load. They stopped the truck before searching it.
The police recovered a lot of different copper cables cut into pieces.

A 32-year-old truck driver was asked to produce documents for transporting copper cables but he failed to do so.
The police intensified their investigation and it was established that the copper was stolen from Eskom and Telkom.
A case docket of possession of suspected stolen property and damaging of infrastructure was opened against the driver.
The value of the copper is R61 000.

The driver was arrested and detained at the Springs Police Station and will appear at the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
