Suspect arrested after months of sleeping on the streets

Acting on a tip-off from a reliable source, on Sunday at 8.0am, close to the Faraday taxi rank in Johannesburg area, a 22-year-old wanted male suspect was found sleeping under the M2 bridge.

He was handcuffed and transported to Kwa-Thema police station by EMPD officers. He will soon answer to double murder and theft charges against him in the relevant magistrate”s court.

On October 26, 2019 at 7pm, the lifeless bodies of a girl (3) and her grandmother (68) were discovered by a member of the family at Magalemele Street in Kwa-Thema.

They were found lying on the kitchen floor after a locked door was forcefully opened. The girl was strangled and her grandmother had head injuries.

A television set was missing and the confirmed drug-addicted grandson, residing within the premises, was nowhere to be found.

The EMPD Specialized Task Team was also notified, since they were working hand in glove with the SAPS and other law-enforcement agencies in the search.

A case of double murder and theft was registered at the Kwa-Thema police station and the hunt for the missing grandson was on.
