Three suspects broke into the metro storage facility on Plantation Road in the early hours of this morning.
Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says three security guards were on duty at the facility.
One of the guards, who was patrolling close to the area where the transformers and roller cables are, was surprised to suddenly see a suspect approach him.

The suspects took a 70x49m copper cable and the cellphone of the complainant, worth R200.
The guards were eventually found by other workers who freed them.
