Safety concerns for Avengloed elderly

Avengloed residents want security upgrade

Residents at Avengloed Retirement Centre feel unsafe with what they say is subpar security measures.

The centre’s perimeter concrete palisade fence is topped with barbed wire.

According to resident Fanie Cornelius, it is very easy for criminals to cut through the barbed wire and climb the fence.

On Saturday night, thieves climbed the fence and stole Cornelius’s lawnmower and a ladder from his neighbours.

Theft is a common occurrence at Avengloed.

Cornelius believes it’s time the municipality upgrades the centre’s security.
