Breach of contract halts construction Construction on Modder East reservoir put on hold

The city is working on reassigning another contractor to work on the project before the beginning of October.

Construction on the Modder East reservoir in Eastvale has been put on hold after the contractor was found to be in breach of conditions of the contract.
The reservoir was planned to provide relief for residents of Eastvale as the area is plagued by water shortages.
According to divisional head of communication and media relations for the City of Ekurhuleni Nhlanhla Cebekhulu, the contractor was given adequate time to correct his position and fully comply, but failed.

“Hence, the City of Ekurhuleni was left with no option except to terminate the contract with him for the construction of the Modder East reservoir.
“The city could not pay a contractor who was in breach of his signed contract as that amounts to unauthorised expenditure and it is therefore illegal.
