Springs police arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of being responsible for setting a police van alight in the Daggafontein informal settlement on the evening of November 11.
The young man was nabbed on Thursday.
Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora said after the man was arrested, some residents of the informal settlement started protesting while others marched to the police station to make their displeasure regarding the arrest known.

After police explained the reason for the man’s arrest, calm was restored.
Police are still looking for more people who were involved in the unlawful protest that took place, during which a police van was torched.

The man will face charges of malicious damage to state property.
