No empty bellies this Christmas
Dr WK du Plessis School learners receive early Christmas presents
WEChristmas came early for learners at Dr W K du Plessis School in Geduld who received 41 food parcels on Friday morning.
These parcels, which were donated to the school by various entities, included canned food, toiletries, sweets and stationery among other essential items.
The donors were AfriForum Springs, Voedsel vir die Volk and Cobra NCIS.

Teacher Christel Olivier said the donations were prompted by a letter written by a young learner.
In the letter, the learner explained how his family had been surviving on mielie meal everyday since the beginning of lockdown.
“When I read that letter, it broke my heart. Many parents have lost their jobs and are barely getting by.
“We have carefully chosen the learners as those we recognised as being in most need. We had one learner who asked her psychologist for a Bible,” said Olivier.

The school also compiled a beautiful calendar for 2021, featuring artwork from the school’s most talented artists.
“This school is a very special place for many people. My daughter is a learner at the school and she has grown from strength to strength in ways I could not even have imagined,’ said said Jennifer Morgan, from Cobra NCIS.
“These teachers care deeply about the learners.
“They do everything they can out of love and for that they deserve a lot of praise.”

Twice a month, the school allows the learners to wear civvies and bring two cans of food, which the school then distributes to learners in need.
Morgan believes the donations will be bigger next year when families and companies recover financially.
