The Potters Haven needs your help

Since the start of Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdowns, the home has not been able to fund-raise like they normally do and need all the support they can get.

Marlene Minnie says her goal in life is to give the 21 children who live in her home hope for the future.
Minnie is the house mother for the The Potters Haven, a NPO that offers shelter and safety to abused children.
She runs the home with her husband and son and at present the home has 21 children, some of which have special needs.

“We get a little government help but we are battling.
“We go the extra mile for the children here because we want to give them hope for the future and make a difference in our society.
“We want them to feel that they are loved and feel at home,” said Minnie.
The home needs help with various things, such as masks, sanitiser, nappies (size six or seven), food and detergents.
In addition to the running costs of the home, they also pay for the school fees and buy school supplies for the children.

“If someone doesn’t feel comfortable giving us money, they can pay for our rates with the municipality.
“Our water bill alone is R7 000. With Covid-19, we’ve had to be extra vigilant with our hygiene,” said Minnie.
