AfriForum Springs questions City’s lack of action

We also need to be weary of the fact that winter is fast approaching and the long grass will pose an even greater hazard with field fires.

AfriForum Springs has written to the City of Ekurhuleni about the state of parks in Springs.

They write:
Afriforum formed part of the Springs Concerned Residents Group in late 2020 and one of the issues raised as part of the memorandum that was handed over was the issue of our parks and our medians for roads such as Nigel Road and Kruger/Kingsway.
We appreciate the fact that a contractor was appointed to cut the grass in the Selcourt and Selection Park areas but these services quickly stopped.

Afriforum has noted that grass-cutting hasn’t commenced and that the state of our parks, especially in the northern suburbs of Geduld to Rowhill and beyond, are in a terrible state.
We have tried contacting the Parks Department to no avail and we believe that they have not started their work activities due to a lack of personal protective equipment.
Not only does the long grass pose a great danger with hiding place for criminal elements but it also prevents motorist to clearly see oncoming traffic.

We also need to be weary of the fact that winter is fast approaching and the long grass will pose an even greater hazard with veld fires.
Long grass will fuel these fires and cause severe possible damage to property and infrastructure.
It will most certainly exert pressure on our emergency services that are already stretched to the maximum.
