Offenders spend Valentine’s Day behind bars
Some drivers were issued with traffic fines for driving vehicles with defects, failing to carry valid driver’s licences and for disobeying stop signs.

Valentine’s Day was filled with anything but love for dozens of offenders who caught themselves on the wrong side of the law.
Crime-prevention operations in the Springs and Katlehong areas conducted on Sunday between 8am and 11pm by the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit, Eastern Region Task Team and precinct officers from Springs, Duduza, Tsakani and Kwa-Thema resulted in the arrest of 13 people.

Narcotics were also confiscated.
Also, 12 motorists were arrested and traffic fines were issued to transgressors during roving roadblocks staged by the EMPD in the Springs area between 2pm and 11pm.
“The intersection of First Avenue and Third Street plus surroundings was flooded with officers.
“Male motorists between the ages of 24 and 53 who had one too many were picked up during sobriety tests using breathalyzers/alcometers before they were escorted to the Springs Police Station, where charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol were levelled against them.

They are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
