NG Kerk Springs-Noord on a mission to #takeSpringsback.
The clean-up started at 10am on Saturday morning and ended after 8pm on Sunday evening.
The NG Kerk-Springs-Noord spent the past weekend cleaning the Botha Street Park in Geduld Extension.
The park has become a notorious spot for drug dealers and users, and also a dumping site.
Taking charge of the clean-up was the church’s youth group, Connect to Christ.
Senior youth leader Maryke Kriek said the youth in the area could no longer walk to church as they were getting robbed in the vicinity of the park.
They also could no longer enjoy using the park.
“Our effort is part of our mission to #takeSpringsback. Covid-19 was a bit of an unsure time and we praise the Lord for what is happening here today. We have faith in Him that we are making a difference.

“It was not just the youth who showed up, but the church and the Sector 5 CPF members. My dad, who is 72, came all the way from Pinetown to help us,” said Kriek.
The clean-up started at 10am on Saturday and ended after 8pm on Sunday.
Plastic bags with drug paraphernalia, alcohol bottles, clothes and even a mattress were found in the park.
Kriek said it was truly a team effort as Hoërskool Hugenote allowed them the use of their tractor, Farmer Transport donated fuel and food, The Garden Lady (Daleen Botha) donated refuse bags and a brush cutter, EJ Supermarket & Bakery donated food items and JB Plastics donated cold drinks and sanitiser.
