SOB footballers get ready to get back on the pitch

The first round of games in the Eastern Local Football Association League will take place next weekend.

The Springs Old Boys Football Club is hard at work preparing for the first round of games in the Eastern Local Football Association League next weekend.
The club, which last played a competitive match in March 2020, has been practising for the past two weeks. This year, the Old Boys will have eight teams competing in the league, from u-8s to u-15s.
“All of us at the club are relieved to be back on the field. The first couple of weeks were hard but we’re getting our fitness levels back up,” said football chairperson Linda Loots.

The league is expected to last until October and there will be cup games in between.
The major difference for the home team this year will be that they are using the Veritas College fields as their home ground, due to to the vandalism that has taken place at Old Boys during the lockdown.
Loots said they are very grateful to Veritas for the use of their facilities and hopes their winning ways will continue at their new home.
“Springs Old Boys Football Club is still very much alive, we just have a new home,” said Loots.

The return to the field has been carefully managed with each team needing to be Covid-19 compliant.
“We have been given a certificate of compliance, so we are safe,” said Loots.
The club said they are still accepting new players until June.
The chairperson said should they get enough players, they could expand the number of teams taking part in the league next year.
