Young Achievers win first league game

The team got off to a rocky start in the league when they lost to JVW Football Club last week.

The Ekurhuleni Women’s Regional League saw Young Achievers Ladies clash with Golden Hurricane at the Kwa-Thema Stadium on Saturday.
The team got off to a rocky start in the league when they lost to JVW Football Club last week.
This time they redeemed themselves with a 1-0 win.
The club’s chairperson, Lazarus Malatji, expressed his gratitude to the players and coach.

“Trying to develop a women’s team in the community has its challenges, and making it to this league means a great deal to us.

After a few attempts, Young Achievers finally found the back of the net against Golden Hurricane on Saturday.

“Our main challenge is lack of resources. We need kits, bibs, balls and sometimes even transport to get to our games,” he said.
Malatji has encouraged the community to support the club by watching the games.

“It means a lot to us when we see our people coming out in numbers.
“Let us enjoy the beautiful game of soccer together,” he added.
The league, which sees 16 teams participating, resumed last Saturday since lockdown regulations were relaxed.
