Children encouraged to unleash their inner artists
“We want the children to find the creativity inside them.”
The Springs Art Gallery hosted a Community Art Programme last Thursday and Friday.
The two-day programme accommodated 20 children from the Springs area and allowed them to let their imaginations go wild.
The children were given canvases and paintbrushes and were allowed to create what they wanted.
Various artists were at the gallery to teach the children techniques and help them create their best pieces.

“We want the children to find their creativity. We know that many children are talented, and this is an opportunity for them to learn and to shine.
“I hope someone here will pursue a career in art,” said event facilitator Mpumi Mabasa.
One of the themes of the event was music-inspired art, and some musicians were at the gallery for performances.
The gallery also partnered with the Springs Library and the children were given a tour of the library, which was refurbished earlier this year.

The library also offered memberships to the children.
“We want this project to go on. We want to target as many schools as we can and inspire a love of art in the people of Springs,” said Mabasa.
