AfriForum’s Springs branch sees improvement at dumping site after continuous pressure

“With the process of appointing new service providers at landfill sites, the pressure on dumpsites in Springs increased immensely, so much so the public started dumping their refuse illegally in fields and open spaces in the community.”

AfriForum Springs has at long last started seeing results at the Daggfontein dumpsite after continuous pressure put on the City of Ekurhuleni.

A service provider has been appointed and the dumpsite has been cleaned.

The civil rights organisation has on three separate occasions made a plea to the City to make the dumpsite at Daggafontein more functional for members of the public.

“With the process of appointing new service providers at landfill sites, the pressure on dumpsites in Springs increased immensely, so much so the public started dumping their refuse illegally in fields and open spaces in the community,” said Dewet Ungerer, AfriForum’s district coordinator for the East Rand.
During the past couple of weeks, AfriForum learned that a service provider is cleaning up the Daggafontein dumpsite.

As such, the dumpsite can now be used functionally by the community.
“It is a relief to see the City is tackling and improving a big problem in the community.
“AfriForum hopes they will continue to fulfil their responsibilities towards residents paying for services.
“AfriForum is making a plea to community members to make use of the dumpsites rather than dumping their refuse in fields and parks,” said Ungerer.
