Teen drowns in dam

The friend experienced some difficulty while swimming. He showed signs of drowning and the victim rescued him.

A teenage boy drowned after he went swimming with a friend on Sunday.
According to Sgt Sbongile Ndlela of Devon SAPS the deceased (17) and his friend went swimming at the Cowles Dam in Payneville.
“The friend experienced some difficulty while swimming. He showed signs of drowning and the victim rescued him.

“While they were coming out of the dam, the victim slipped, lost his balance and then fell back into the water. He then drowned,” explained Ndlela.
Police divers were called to the scene and the body of the teenager was recovered not far from where the pair was swimming.
The SAPS warned the community to avoid going into rivers, streams and dams, especially during the rainy season as the water current is heavy and its generally not safe.
