When Roman returned home, he saw his dog Pep lying lifeless in their yard.
The early hours of Monday morning played out like a horror movie for Taryn Dryzek and her family when two of their dogs were poisoned during an attempted house robbery.
Roman Dryzek was awakened by the sound of a car idling outside and the rattling of metal.
“I woke up at around 03:00 when I heard them breaking the lock outside,” said Roman.

He went outside, shone a flashlight at his gate and saw two young men entering his yard.
They fled upon seeing the light and Roman chased after them but they got away.
When Roman returned home, he saw his dog Pep lying lifeless in their yard.
“I could immediately tell he was poisoned,” said Roman.
“His body was covered in vomit and faeces.”

Their second dog, Igor, was poisoned as well and was taken to the vet where he died the Tuesday morning.
Chickens owned by the family were also killed by the poison. Their cat consumed some but survived.
Selection Park residents and the CPF have reason to believe these are planned attacks.
Roman’s neighbour’s dog was poisoned and killed earlier in the week.

In addition, these poisonings coincide with the spotting of a white bakkie, according to Taryn.
Thieves laced bully beef with a poison called Aldicarb, informally called ‘two step’, and hurled it over the house walls to poison the dogs.
The Dryzek’s are heartbroken by the incident and want to make the people of Springs aware of these methods.
