It’s been almost two years of complaining about the lack of service delivery in their community for Marie Shortridge (57) and other residents of Madeley Road in Strubenvale.
Shortridge believes that she has been living in danger due to the overgrown grass and trees next to her home.
“It has been a nightmare. I have gone to report this matter and tried to get the trees removed because they are near my house and may damage my roof,” she said.

Shortridge said she has been trying to contact the councillor without luck.
“The grass has grabbed criminals’ attention. They hide in the long grass. We have a lot of rats that come in and out the house and we have also seen snakes in our yard,” said Shortridge.
She said trying to resolve the matter has impacted her health. She also feels unsafe in her home.

“I have tried to contact the CPF but not much has been done. They tried to assist but everything is still the same.
“We have involved the community and the ward councillor but nothing has been sorted. Our community needs help and we would appreciate it if it can be resolved,” she said.

Ward councillor Chairmain Kock told the Advertiser she was not aware of the issues.
“We are doing clean-ups in parts of Strubenvale. I believe if I was made aware of the problems in Madeley Road it would be resolved. I will be in touch with the resident and see what I can assist with,” she said.
