Exposed cables concern Strubenvale residents
Residents demand a solution from the municipality.
Strubenvale residents are encountering a problem regarding exposed cables in their area.
With load-shedding having made a return, they fear that thieves will start stripping the exposed cables.
According to residents the cables have been exposed for more than a year and nothing has changed. The community needs assistance because their lives are in danger.
Chairperson of the Strubenvale CPF Johan van Staden said they have been trying to stop the consequences of load-shedding but need the assistance of the metro council.
“This problem could cause Strubenvale to be plunged into darkness for longer periods due to theft and damages to the infrastructure,” said van Staden.

He said the matter was reported to the councillor and the metro.
“The people from the Ekurhuleni metro came to patch the cables but it was not completely safe. The cables are on the ground and might put people in danger,” he said.
Clr Charmaine Kock told the Advertiser the Strubenvale community has no reference numbers to show they have reported the matter.
“I believe the municipality would not put down temporary cables, unsafe to the community. The last time I checked the cables are safe and well patched. If the cables are not safe, the community needs to report it to the municipality. If they did report the matter, they would have been able to show me some references,” said Kock.
She also said the temporary cables were installed to assist with the power supply.
