Raising awareness about children’s rights

“It is important that we collaborate with different stakeholders for the purpose of communicating the message that takes a collective effort to raise and protect children.”

On May 25, Laerskool Dunnottar held a child protection awareness day about the importance of child safety and children’s rights.
Dunnottar SAPS Sergeant Maropeng Maphaya said as custodians of children they take responsibility to make sure that every child is protected and safe.

Lizwi Mahlaba, Thembi Madlala, Mafelela Khoza and Papi Mabena from DEMS.

Various teams from Gauteng Traffic, EMPD, DEMS and Correctional Services collaborated for the event.
“It is important that we collaborate with different stakeholders to communicate the message that it takes a collective effort to raise and protect children.
“It is not just our department that must be responsible and accountable about children’s rights, but also the community as a whole,” said Maphaya.

Learners attended the event alongside the teachers and were taught lessons on how they should be protected.
“We are happy learners understood what they have been taught about this day. We thank the school and all the organisations that came to support this day,” she said.
