Low water pressure expected during planned work at pump station
The Mapleton Booster pump station supplies water to the Vlakfontein and Brakpan reservoirs.
A planned water shutdown is planned for July 20 for Rand Water to replace a scour valve on its S1 pump line, as well as remove a gate from the delivery valve of one of the pumps at the Mapleton Booster Pump Station.
According to Rand Water, the work will take 22 hours to complete.
The Mapleton system, which supplies water to the Vlakfontein and Brakpan reservoirs, will only be pumping 330ML instead of 730ML (45% capacity).

If the Vlakfontein and Brakpan reservoirs go empty, the following areas within the City of Ekurhuleni will be affected: Brakpan, Dalpark, Tsakani, Daveyton, Springs, Etwatwa, AH Daveyton, Selcourt and Vosloorus.
This does not mean there will be no supply of water during the shutdown, but areas might experience low pressure.
Recovery of the system might take approximately three to five days.
