The Springs and Kwa-Thema Child Welfare Society is looking for the parents of a baby boy who was found outside their offices in Springs on Thursday morning.
“When I arrived at work just before 08:00 I was told of the baby who was found by a security guard and one of our staff members behind the branches of a tree outside the fence,” explained Sanet van Moerkerken, a social worker and programme manager of the society.
The baby boy is about six months old.
“The nurses at the Methodist Retirement Village were a tremendous help. They found that he was warmly dressed and relatively healthy,” she said.

The boy was also taken to the hospital for further observation.
“We need to trace the parents or anyone with information. The child had no documents with him,” she added.
Van Moerkerken discourages anyone from leaving a child outside in such a manner.
“It is best to wait until we open. We would have been able to help them if they are unable to care for the child, for whatever reason. Leaving the baby outside exposes the children to so many elements that we cannot control,” she said.
The welfare offices are located on 12th Street.
They may be contacted on 011 812 2345 or 081 5349 652.
