WATCH: Springs Boys’ High hosts annual Remembrance Day

'May the corners of these corridors of this school echo with the sounds of your footsteps', - Principal Diane Freeman.

Springs Boys’ High School held its annual Remembrance Day on November 11. The weather reflected the sombre mood of the event as the rain poured during the ceremony.

This was in commemoration of Poppy Day, a day celebrated globally, which signifies the end of World War I.

The day is observed on the 11th day of the 11th month every year in honour of those who died and served the country.

The ceremony was celebrated with a performance from the school choir as well as recitals by the school band.

Newly elected RCL members, Oratile Mokoena, Phuti Ramushu and Thapelo Kgope detailed the brave exploits of Job Maseko, a South African soldier who served and died in the war.

There was a short sermon delivered by Pastor Thabo August that spoke of the power of the poppy and right remembering.

“They shall not grow old, as we grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor age condemns them. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we shall remember them,” Pastor August reciting the remembrance prayer.

Members from the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTHs) were in attendance and led the MOTHs ceremony and reveille.

Wreaths were laid in honour of the fallen soldiers, as well as loved ones who are alma mater of the school.
