Never Never residents meet new MMC, discuss settlement plans

Residents of Never Never informal settlement met with the Ekurhuleni MMC of Human Settlements Alco Ngobese on Tuesday.

The meeting was in line with the court ruling that granted the owner of the land the right to evict the residents.

The private land has been home to the occupants for over 20 years.

Residents voiced their concerns, which included issues of relocation and employment opportunities.

The residents, which amount to about 277 households, will be relocated to an area in Brakpan.

Ngobese confirmed that plans are underway, and he will return in February to give the residents a progress report.
