EMPD seize illegal cigarettes worth R30k at Fourth Avenue supermarket
Three men were arrested after the EMPD acted on information received during a crime prevention operation.
The EMPD arrested three men on February 3 at a supermarket on Fourth Avenue for being in possession of illicit cigarettes.
Acting on a tip-off during a crime prevention operation, the metro officers raided the supermarket in the presence of the shop owner and his assistant.
According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the officers uncovered boxes of illicit cigarettes with an estimated value of R30 000 in an underground storage room in the shop.

Thepa said as the metro officers were conducting the search, a third man appeared and offered them a bribe of R1 000.
The men were detained at the Springs SAPS and are facing charges of illegal cigarette possession, interference and bribery.
They are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate Court soon.
