Dr WK du Plessis School learner shines in a poetry competition

Nico Strydom has made his school proud by having his poem selected to be published.

My Love, a poem written by Nico Strydom, a Grade 11 learner at Dr WK du Plessis School, has been selected as one of 70 poems to form part of an anthology titled Liefde Wen that will be published in February.

Nico took his chance when he entered the Liefde Wen Poetry Competition in 2022 where the criteria of the competition stated that it had to be about love.

He says he had written the poem just before his sister’s wedding.

“I chose My Love for my sister and her husband because no one else could embody love better than them. Their love was the inspiration behind my writing,” said Nico.

He adds that it feels good knowing that his hard work and dedication to his passion paid off.

“I believe it is every writer’s dream to have their poems published,” Nico concluded.

The school expressed their pride in Nico’s achievement.
