Adjustment budget approved

Service delivery to get back on track.

On Tuesday, after a month of political grandstanding, the adjustment budget was passed in council.

This adjustment budget will realign the city’s finances to give expression to the needs of residents on the ground.

On Monday, the City of Ekurhuleni took stock of 36 waste compactors through its plant hire tender to address the waste backlog.

With the passing of the adjustment budget, the municipality is now in a position to purchase waste compactors outright to replace the ageing in-house fleet.

“Our roads, which have been adversely impacted by recent rains and are riddled with potholes, can now be attended to and brought up to the standard our residents deserve,” said MMC for Finance, Economic Development, and Information Communication, Fanyana Nkosi.

“Long overdue grass-cutting will now take place. Service delivery which includes, but is not limited to, the cleanup of our cemeteries, our inner cities, and townships can now occur unabated.

“It is unfortunate that certain political parties who chose to put their narrow interests ahead of residents have delayed this process by over a month, hindering the rollout of services.

“This multi-party coalition remains committed to ensuring all residents receive service delivery. The approval of this budget will now give expression to the needs of our people.”
