City’s libraries revert to one Saturday a month

The metro urges communities to take advantage of the city's library services, which range from physical to digital services.

The City of Ekurhuleni has this week announced that its public libraries are reverting to offering once a month Saturday library services.

According to metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the weekend library services will only be offered on the first Saturday of the month.

As part of the civic institutions’ new era post the pandemic, they offered extended library services every second Saturday of each month, after the metro received several requests about opening the facilities on Saturdays.

At the time, the head of libraries and information services in the city Karin Muller stated that although the opening was once a month, it was a great start to providing a better and satisfactory service to residents.

Dlamini pointed out that the weekend services were subsequently extended to every Saturday of the month. Still, management has now taken a decision to return to once-a-month weekend services.

The normal library operational hours for the five business days and Saturday remain unchanged.

Here are the operating hours:
• Monday to Thursday from 08:00 to 16:30
• Friday from 08:30 to 16:30
• Saturday from 08:00 to 13:00

Muller urged communities to continue using library facilities, and parents are urged to register their children as library patrons by taking advantage of the children’s section.

This will instil a culture of reading from an early age.
