Markets in Springs a haven for small businesses

Markets are popping up and offering small business owners the opportunity to sell their products.

A second day/night market was held at Den Akker, President’s Park, on March 3 and local small businesses displayed and sold their products.

Many stalls offered wares such as jewellery, fruit, clothes, and more. There was music and activities children could partake in.

“What a lovely evening. Thanks to everyone who braved the rain. This was the first market of four that saw it late into the night,” declared the market founder and organiser, Johann Jungbauer.

The market started at 16:00 and carried on well into the night.

The following weekend was the start of the Farmers’ Market, and the venue was also Den Akker.

The initiative aims to target smallholders to allow them to sell their produce and wares to the public.

The market opened at 06:00 and ran until 10:00 on Saturday.

“Thank you to those who attended. It was a great success. The veggies were sold out by 08:00. If you missed today, make sure you book for next week,” said Johann.

The Farmers’ Market runs weekly from 06:00 to 10:00. Farmers who register will get free stall space.
