Greater Springs silent amid national shutdown

Remnants of burnt tyres were littered at Slovo Park in response to the national shutdown.

The streets of Springs were eerily silent as residents and businesses waited in anticipation of the aftermath of the national shutdown.

This comes after announcements by the EFF calling for a national shutdown against load-shedding and the stepping down of president Cyril Ramaphosa.

Some local businesses reacted by closing their doors for the day due to posts on social media and news platforms warning of disruptions and possible violence.

Many residents and employees have heeded warnings and have stayed home out of fear for their safety.

Some pockets of unrest started around midnight, however, they were controlled and foiled by local authorities.
