Local karatekas scoop 15 medals at junior karate championships

The KWF Springs dojo won 22 medals at the Karatenomichi World Federation (KWF) South African junior championships held at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein on June 3.

Karatenomichi World Federation (KWF) Springs Karate Club celebrated 20 of its members who took home medals at the KWF SA Junior Championships that took place on June 3 at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein.

Sensei Fanie du Plessis said he was proud of all the karatekas who participated.

“This was a SA championship, so as expected it was very tough. We are very happy about the outcome,” said Du Plessis.

In kata, Jazmin Conradie won a gold medal. The silver medal winners were Divine Sithole and Damian Pretorius.

Bronze medal winners were Meetesh Kunver, Dewandre van Tonder, Zuhandre Prinsloo, and Johan Swanepoel.

Kihon ippon kumite’s gold medal winners were Zuhandre Prinsloo and Moranang Digomo. Andre Visagie won a silver medal.

Bronze winners were Meetesh Kunver, Damian Pretorius, and Anushka Herbst.

In the kumite division, silver medals were won by Zuhandre Prinsloo and Moranang Digomo.
