Enderun College and Blue Crane Academy hold winter drive for the homeless

Both principals were proud of their learners and commended them for their unwavering commitment to the project.

Learners from Enderun College and Blue Crane Academy recently had a winter drive for homeless people.

Under the guidance of Tasneem Seedat-Matwadia and Thirren Moonsamy from Enderun College and Fatima Ismail Patel and Ayesha Esoop from Blue Crane Academy, the learners embarked on their annual Helping Hands Winter Warm Up Project.

“This initiative not only caters to the immediate needs of the homeless but also instils in them a profound sense of empathy and societal obligation.

“With an earnest desire to bring solace and succour to the homeless, these kind-hearted learners devoted their time and energies to creating winter hampers brimming with indispensable provisions,” said a representative of Enderun College, Nazeefah Dawood.

In recent weeks, the corridors and classrooms of both schools buzzed with activity when the learners gathered supplies and collected donations for the cause.

Assembling of the hampers occurred on May 25. The hampers comprised beanies, gloves, socks, hot water bottles, biscuits, soup and tea sachets, winter rubs and jackets.

On June 21, the learners of both schools took to the streets of Springs to distribute 50 hampers.

“We wanted to make a difference in someone’s life. It’s important to show kindness and compassion, especially during winter when homeless people face greater challenges.

“We hope our small act of making these hampers will comfort them and remind them they’re not alone,” a learner expressed.

The winter hampers were packed with items such as beanies and gloves.

Both principals were proud of their learners and commended them for their commitment to this project.

The project exemplified the values both schools strive to instil in their learners – caring for others, understanding the impact of actions, and working together to create positive change.

“This laudable undertaking seeks to provide immediate respite and engenders empathy and understanding among learners.
