Rugby star on the rise

The Springs Rugby Club player was one of only 23 players chosen for the Ireland tour at the end of the school year.

Thirteen-year-old Juan Kleynhans was chosen to represent the national Rhino U13s in Ireland.

The Grade Seven learner from Laerskool Selection Park was originally chosen for the regional Springs U13 group.

After a stellar performance at the Rhino Regional Primary School Tournament 2023, he was invited to the national team.

“He has always been passionate about rugby, and he goes the extra mile,” explained his mom, Liza.

Juan Kleinhans will be off to Ireland at the end of the year.

She said, at times, Juan would have more than three rugby practice sessions a week.

“He plays with his heart, and I think that is what makes him a special rugby player.”

The proud mom said Juan had the support of his whole family. The Springs Rugby Club player is one of only 23 players chosen for the Ireland tour at the end of the school year.

“I love playing rugby. I enjoy the game. It is fun. In SA, we play barefoot, and when we play internationally, we have to wear ‘toks’ (boots).

Juan Kleinhans did not hold back any of his talent at the Rhino Regional Primary School Tournament.

“I expect our opponents to be tougher, and I think the weather is also going to be challenging because it will be very cold,” he said.

Juan said he was excited knowing he would attend Hoërskool Garsfontein. His long-term goal is to sign with a major rugby franchise in SA or internationally.

The talented rugby player needs to raise R55 000 to attend the Ireland tour. His family will host several events to help raise the amount.

They would appreciate the community’s help to make Juan’s dream come true. To get involved, email liza.kleynhans007@gmail.com
