Hospital celebrates pharmacists’ vital role in community healthcare

Netcare N17 Hospital celebrates National Pharmacy Month, with this year’s theme emphasising that pharmacists are standing united to raise awareness for their role in healthcare.

In honour of National Pharmacy Month this September, Netcare N17 Hospital launched a series of impactful campaigns to raise awareness about the indispensable role of pharmacists in delivering essential healthcare services to the community.

Priya Naicker, pharmacy manager at Netcare N17 Hospital, highlighted the significance of this awareness month as an opportunity to showcase the pharmacy profession’s importance in enriching community health.

“#NationalPharmacyMonth serves as a platform to spotlight various health-related matters and how pharmacy professionals, including both pharmacists and pharmacy support personnel, play a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of the community,” said Naicker.

Sister Geraldine Jordaan, the ICU unit manager, has her blood pressure taken by registered nurse Juane Jantjies.

“This month unites pharmacists across all sectors to communicate to the public the invaluable contributions our profession makes in delivering high-quality healthcare.”

The theme for this year’s initiative is ‘Pharmacy united in promoting healthcare for patients.’

This theme underscores the pivotal role pharmacies play in helping the public access healthcare services, often serving as the initial point of contact within the healthcare system.

Naicker emphasised that pharmacists are an essential asset to the healthcare team, ensuring that patients receive appropriate therapy.

The Netcare N17 Hospital pharmacy hosted National Pharmacy Month.

“We also have a responsibility to empower patients by providing advice and information, not only about their medications but also about adopting a healthy lifestyle and more,” she added.

As part of this initiative, the hospital pharmacy offered free basic healthcare screenings to the public on September 14, in collaboration with allied healthcare professionals.

These services included blood pressure and blood glucose level monitoring, iron testing, audiology tests and eye testing.

“Netcare N17 Hospital is proud to celebrate National Pharmacy Month and the health awareness opportunity it presents,” said Naicker.
