Join Tamil New Year celebrations
The Bhairavi Sungum of Springs awaits its 31st celebration of the Tamil New Year with grand festivities on April 13.
The Bhairavi Sungum of Springs will host a lavish celebration to mark the 31st anniversary of the Tamil New Year on April 13.
Bhairavi Sungum commemorates this occasion annually on April 14 with Tamil communities globally.
They will celebrate the Tamil New Year with a cultural concert of songs, dance, and music of its heritage.
Chairperson of Bhairavi Sungum Poovershree Pillay explains that because there are seven days in a week and 12 months in a year, it is similar to the Tamil almanac.
“We have a 60-year cycle, and each year has a unique name. This year is called Kurothi Varusham, meaning The Year of Wrath.”
The community is invited to the celebration at the Bakerton Community Centre on 1st Avenue, Bakerton, Springs, at 14:30.
The celebration will feature KwaZulu-Natal’s melodious and talented local and international multi-ward-winning singer, radio presenter, and influencer, Yovani Naidoo, with dance performances by the Sarvashiva Dance Academy and the Desi Motion Dance Academy.
Entrance is free, and supper will be served.
